INSTRUCTIONS & ADVICE

Preserved Moss is a great and versatile material, but there are a few things to keep in mind:

- Preserved moss can only be used indoors
- It must not get wet or be placed in overly humid conditions
- Its colour will fade if placed in direct sunlight
- It’s very tactile – so it’s best to place it out of reach to avoid damage from curious hands
- It’s low maintenance, but can be repaired or tidied if needed

ABOUT POLAR MOSS

Cladonia rangiferina, also known as reindeer lichen grows in both hot and cold climates in well-drained, open environments. Found primarily in areas of alpine tundra, it is extremely cold-hardy.

Other common names include polar moss, reindeer moss, deer moss, and caribou moss, but these names may be misleading since it is not actually a moss. As the common names suggest, reindeer lichen is an important food for reindeer (caribou), and has economic importance as a result.

Reindeer lichen, like many lichens, is slow growing (3–11 mm per year) and may take decades to return once overgrazed, burned, trampled, or otherwise consumed.

It grows on humus, or on soil over rock. it also grows mostly in taiga and the tundra. It often dominates the ground in boreal pine forests and open, low-alpine sites in a wide range of habitats, from humid, open forests, rocks and heaths.

In certain parts of its range this lichen is a threatened species. For example, in the British Duchy of Cornwall it is protected under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.

Belcat Bt is an Italian – Hungarian company founded in 2007 to supply preserved flowers, greenery and plants on the Hungarian market.

A new field of of engagement for Belcat Design was born in 2012 when responding to the demand of interior designers for natural, green design objects of high quality that require little or no maintenance.

Thanks to the several years of experience in floral decoration in Italy and collaborations with famous designer and architects a new technology to applicate preserved moss or preserved lichens to indoor walls. The result is a modular system that can be applied like tiles: moss tiles.

With a similar technology spheres are covered with lichens or moss making for exciting decorations.

Moss tiles decorated with ferns and leaves framed are now used as a picture on the wall.
